X sues Bitcoin account operators over alleged payout fraud
X lawsuit targets Bitcoin accounts accused of inflating creator payouts See how alleged engagement manipulation boosted revenue and prompted action
X has filed a lawsuit in England and Wales against alleged operators of several Bitcoinfocused accounts, accusing them of manipulating engagement to collect creator revenue payouts.
The company says six accounts coordinated reposts, likes, and nearly identical posts to create the appearance of real activity and inflate earnings under its former revenuesharing program. X claims the group received at least £207,384, or about $278,000, and that its total losses, including investigation and remediation costs, could exceed £282,000.
According to the filing, the accounts were suspended in August, and X has linked them to two named defendants through associated Stripe records. The platform also says it identified additional accounts that helped amplify the activity. X retired the revenuesharing program on Sept. 7 and replaced it with Original Content Rewards the next day.
