2 Canadian Armed Forces members arrested in organized crime probe

Canadian Armed Forces arrests raise urgent questions about military crime probes See what DND says about the case, the soldiers involved, and the next steps

The Department of National Defence says two Canadian Armed Forces members were arrested by Toronto police in connection with an investigation involving organized crime, kidnapping, and firearms theft. The two soldiers, identified as Sachintha Fernando and James Moreau of the 7 Toronto Regiment, have been removed from duty and their access to military facilities has been restricted. DND said both remain members of the forces while an administrative review continues. The department did not give details about the allegations and referred questions to Toronto police. Fernando and Moreau were both listed as bombardiers, and DND said one had not been deployed while the other previously served on Operation Laser during the COVID19 pandemic.
