The U.S. Supreme Court’s approval rating has fallen to a record low, according to a new Gallup poll. Just 33% of Americans said they approve of the court’s performance, while 61% said they disapprove.
The drop was driven in part by weaker support from Republicans. Gallup said Republican approval fell to 58% from 79% in its previous measurement in September, marking the lowest level for Republicans in nearly three years.
The poll also found that Democratic approval has remained very low over the past five years, while independents were little changed from the prior reading. Gallup suggested recent rulings involving tariffs, birthright citizenship, and other Trump administration disputes may have influenced views of the court. The survey was conducted with 1,200 adults from July 1 to 19, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
