Wildfires and WestJet cancellations disrupt B.C. Day travel

Travel across British Columbia is being disrupted over the B.C. Day long weekend by active wildfires, highway closures, and flight cancellations tied to a WestJet labour dispute. Highway 1 is closed through part of the Fraser Canyon near Boston Bar, and Highway 97 is also shut in the Clinton area because of the Pear Lake wildfire. Officials are advising drivers in the Interior to check conditions before leaving and to carry extra fuel, food, and water. At Vancouver International Airport, WestJet has cancelled hundreds of flights ahead of a possible flight attendants strike, affecting some passengers at YVR. Meanwhile, B.C. Ferries expects very heavy traffic on major routes, and border crossings in the Lower Mainland are seeing lengthy waits as holiday travel increases.
