OpenAI to acquire Ona for Codex expansion

OpenAI acquires Ona to boost Codex with secure cloud orchestration Support longer agent tasks and enterprise deployments—see what changes next

OpenAI said it will acquire Ona, a company focused on secure cloud execution and orchestration technology, to strengthen its Codex product. The announcement was made on June 11, 2026. According to OpenAI, more than 5 million people use Codex each week to research, analyze, build, and automate work. The company said Codex is increasingly being used for longer tasks that can continue over hours or days, rather than only short sessions. Ona’s technology is designed to provide persistent cloud environments where agents can keep working with the tools and context they need. OpenAI said this will help Codex move beyond a single device or active session and support more secure enterprise deployments. The acquisition is still subject to regulatory approval and other closing conditions. Until the deal closes, OpenAI and Ona will continue operating separately.
