Public health agencies in the United States will begin testing generative AI tools from OpenAI and Anthropic through a new programme led by the Coalition for Health AI, with support from Accenture.
The initiative, called PULSE, will run pilots in 10 state, local, tribal, or territorial jurisdictions. It is designed to help agencies evaluate practical AI use cases and produce guidance for others considering similar deployments.
The programme will cover five areas: biosurveillance and drugwave prediction, social determinants of health mapping, operations and community feedback analysis, public communications and multilingual translation, and clinicaldata retrieval using FHIR tools. The pilots are expected to start in autumn 2026, with playbooks due in 2027.
