Supreme Court rejects Trump appeal in E. Jean Carroll case

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear President Donald Trump’s appeal of a $5 million civil verdict in favor of writer E. Jean Carroll, leaving the lower court ruling in place. The jury in the New York federal case found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll. In a separate case, another Manhattan federal jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million for defamation, and Trump is still challenging that decision at a lower appeals court. The high court did not explain its decision, and no justice issued a written dissent. Trump’s lawyers had argued that the trial court improperly admitted testimony from other women and the Access Hollywood tape. Carroll’s lawyer said the ruling confirms the jury’s verdict and ends Trump’s efforts to overturn it.
