Evacuation alert lifted in La Casa community near Okanagan Lake

West Kelowna evacuation alert lifted after crews secure wildfire perimeter Stay clear of La Casa as firefighters battle the out-of-control blaze

An evacuation alert for more than 500 properties in the La Casa community north of West Kelowna was lifted Sunday afternoon after firefighting crews made progress on a nearby wildfire. Central Okanagan Emergency Management said the fire, which remains classified as out of control, grew only a little overnight and crews have established a secure perimeter around the blaze. The alert had been issued Saturday after the wildfire was first discovered in the popular vacation area on the west side of Okanagan Lake. Officials are still asking people to stay away from the area unless necessary, and boaters have been told to avoid the affected section of the lake so emergency responders can continue their work.
