An Ontario appeal court has upheld bail for Torontoarea lawyer Deepak Paradkar, who is accused in connection with the Ryan Wedding case.
The Crown had asked the court to overturn a previous release order and keep Paradkar detained until his extradition hearing. Prosecutors argued the earlier decision failed to properly assess the evidence and the risk to public confidence.
In its ruling, the court said the lowercourt judge did not make an error in granting bail. Paradkar remains subject to conditions that include house arrest, GPS monitoring and limits on electronic device use. The case is part of a broader U.S.led effort involving several Canadians accused in an alleged international drugsmuggling network tied to Wedding.
