Montreal police seek three suspects in mock execution of Quebec labour minister

Montreal police are asking for the public’s help identifying three people linked to a simulated public execution of Quebec labour minister Jean Boulet during a May 2 demonstration in Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles. According to police, the incident took place around 2:30 p.m. at Place des Festivals during a May Day protest. Video shared on social media showed demonstrators using a guillotinelike prop to cut the head off a papiermâché figure representing Boulet. The SPVM said its operational planning division is leading the investigation. Police released descriptions and images of the three men they want to identify, saying two of them allegedly kicked the puppet’s head after it was severed. Quebec political leaders condemned the incident, while the group behind the display described it as a symbolic performance tied to labour grievances. Police are asking anyone with information or footage to contact 911, a local police station, or InfoCrime Montréal.
