A 42yearold man died Tuesday evening after a physical intervention by a security guard at the Centre JacquesCartier shopping mall in Longueuil, Que., on Montreal’s South Shore.
Police said the man was unconscious when officers arrived at the IGA grocery store shortly before 7 p.m. He was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The security guard, a 20yearold man, was arrested and later released under conditions. He is expected to appear in court, while investigators continue to review witness accounts and security camera footage. Sobeys, which owns the IGA banner in Quebec, said it is cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues.
