Amazon suspends partnership with 21 Air after Miami cargo crash

Amazon 21 Air crash: cargo partnership paused after deadly Miami runway overshoot See what investigators found and how Amazon is responding to the fatal accident

Amazon has paused its partnership with cargo operator 21 Air after one of its planes overshot a runway at Miami International Airport last week, killing five people. The Boeing 767, which was carrying Amazon packages, landed too fast on Sept. 6 and went roughly 396 metres past the runway before hitting a van carrying workers from a plane cleaning company. Five people in the van were killed and five others were injured. Amazon said it is cooperating with investigators and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is examining the aircraft’s ownership history, maintenance records, weather conditions and 21 Air’s operations as part of its investigation.
