Winnipeg ranks as Canada’s least safe city in new poll
Winnipeg safety poll shows Canada’s least safe major city, with Ottawa first See how Canadians ranked 15 cities on safety and what shaped those perceptions
A new Liaison Strategies poll says Winnipeg is viewed as Canada’s least safe major city, while Ottawa is seen as the safest. The survey asked 1,500 Canadian adults to rate 15 cities as very safe, somewhat safe, somewhat unsafe or very unsafe.
More than half of respondents said Winnipeg felt somewhat or very unsafe. The poll found 38% rated it somewhat unsafe and 21% very unsafe, and the city also finished last in a similar 2017 study.
The survey suggests that public perceptions of safety are shaped by media coverage, personal experience and stories from others. Ottawa ranked first, followed closely by Quebec City, while Charlottetown, Victoria and Moncton also scored well. The poll was conducted by telephone on Aug. 3031 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.53 percentage points.
