Montreal police recover stolen tools and cash in investigation
Montreal police recover $800K in stolen tools from online resale rings See how investigators dismantled two networks and what buyers should watch for
Montreal police say they have recovered about $800,000 worth of new tools stolen from hardware stores and resold on online platforms.
The case began in April and led investigators to dismantle two alleged criminal networks. Searches were carried out in Laval, Montreal's Villeray–SaintMichel–ParcExtension borough, and later in Kirkland on Montreal's West Island.
Police say they seized roughly $800,000 in stolen tools and nearly $485,000 in cash across the investigations. Five suspects have been identified and face theftrelated charges. Investigators say the goods were taken from box stores during business hours, stored in homes, and then sold online. Residents are being urged to be cautious when buying items on the internet and to contact police if they believe they purchased stolen property.
