Corus confirms layoffs at Global News amid ad sales decline

Corus Entertainment says it will cut an unspecified number of jobs at Global News as it works to support and strengthen its news operations. The Torontobased company also said it plans to centralize some production, while keeping local news coverage in Alberta. CBC News reported that the layoffs will affect staff in Edmonton, including an anchor, an editor, a weather anchor and several control room roles. Corus said it is also adding some new positions to support local news delivery. The announcement comes as Corus faces falling radio and television advertising revenue, a heavy debt load and pressure on its share price. The company has also been moving forward with a debtforequity restructuring plan that still needs regulatory approval.
