Quebec election campaign enters day 27 ahead of final debate

Quebec election race tightens as leaders head into the final televised debate Polls favor the PQ, but a minority government and post-election alliances loom

Quebec’s party leaders are back on the campaign trail as the provincial election enters its 27th day, with less than two weeks remaining before voters head to the polls on Oct. 5. The leaders of the Parti Québécois, the Liberals, Coalition Avenir Québec, the Conservatives and Québec solidaire are preparing for the third and final televised debate, set for Wednesday in Montreal. Recent discussion has focused on whether any parties might cooperate if no one wins a majority. Parti Québécois Leader Paul StPierre Plamondon said Monday that an alliance is not an option, after opponents compared his positions with those of Conservative Leader Éric Duhaime. Poll tracker Qc125 still shows the Parti Québécois in front, while suggesting a minority government remains the likeliest outcome.
