Free beach wheelchairs offered at White Rock beach

White Rock, British Columbia, has launched a pilot program offering free beach wheelchair rentals so more people can access the shoreline during the summer.
The city has two sandfriendly wheelchairs available for up to two hours at no cost through Naakua Paddle Boards. A third chair designed to enter the water is expected to be added soon.
City councillor Susan Bains, who uses a wheelchair, said the program is meant to help people enjoy the beach instead of being left out. The two chairs were donated by local accessibility group Self Advocates of Semiahmoo, and the program will run until Sept. 8.
