B.C. and Ottawa announce multibillion-dollar economic agreement

B.C. infrastructure deal backs ports, mines and energy projects with billions See what Carney and Eby’s agreement could mean for trade, jobs and pipelines

Prime Minister Mark Carney and B.C. Premier David Eby announced a new multibilliondollar agreement in Vancouver that includes funding for major infrastructure and resource projects in the province. The federal government said it will keep the North Coast oil tanker ban in place, even as Alberta prepares to update its own West Coast pipeline proposal. The package includes $10 billion for upgrades to the Roberts Bank Terminal at the Port of Vancouver and $3 billion for the George Massey Tunnel replacement. It also includes funding for the Port of Prince Rupert and Port of Stewart, as well as investment for the Red Chris copper mine and the North Coast Transmission Line. The agreement also signals support for B.C.'s liquefied natural gas sector, wind turbine manufacturing, and stronger protections for orca populations along the coast. Officials said the deal is intended to support trade, exports, and longterm economic development, though its effect on Alberta's pipeline plans remains unclear.
