OpenAI launches AI skills program for K–12 educators

OpenAI Academy, in partnership with the Walton Family Foundation, will host an AI Skills Jam for K–12 educators this summer. The program is designed to give teachers, administrators, and district leaders handson practice with AI tools in a trusted setting. More than 1,600 educators are expected to take part in inperson workshops across several U.S. cities, including Jonesboro, Fairfax, Orlando, Chicago, San Bernardino, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas. Sessions will focus on practical uses such as lesson planning, parent communication, staff communication, and administrative work. OpenAI says the goal is to help educators build AI literacy and confidence while using the technology responsibly in schools. Participants will also be connected to OpenAI Academy’s free online resources so they can continue learning after the event.
