Phoenix Concert Theatre plans move to Toronto's west end

Phoenix Concert Theatre relocates to Parkdale Hall next fall, pending approval Keep the Phoenix name, similar capacity, and a better west-end live music home

Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre plans to relocate from its longtime downtown home on Sherbourne Street to Parkdale Hall on Queen Street West next year, pending city zoning approval. The venue, which has operated at 410 Sherbourne St. for more than 35 years, is expected to open in its new westend location next fall if the move is approved. Coowner Lisa Zbitnew said the new space will keep the Phoenix name and maintain a similar capacity of about 1,300 people. The move comes after the venue was previously expected to close for redevelopment. Zbitnew said the new site offers a suitable setting for live music and better serves a westend neighbourhood that lacks larger performance spaces. Music journalist Alan Cross said the relocation could be a strong fit for Parkdale and a boost for the local area.
