Optimism Kona v1.8.0 improves fault-proof checks
Kona v1.8.0 strengthens fault-proof verification across OP Stack chains Stricter batch checks, safer proof execution, and better reliability
Optimism has released Kona v1.8.0, a maintenance update for its Rustbased faultproof stack that focuses on derivation, proof execution, TLS, and preimage handling. The company says the release should be used across chains.
A key change is stricter handling of malformed batches after the Holocene upgrade. Kona now checks batch parent hashes against the safe head in the same way opnode does, reducing the chance that the two systems derive different chains under faulty batcher conditions.
The update also changes how proof execution handles errors. Missing preimage or witness data will now stop execution instead of being treated as proof that a payload is invalid. Optimism says the release is meant to keep verification behavior consistent and reliable as the OP Stack adds more client diversity.
