Newsom DOJ investigation puts Gavin and Jennifer Siebel Newsom under scrutiny now See the latest on Trump's role, the finances probe, and what it means politically
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Monday that the Justice Department is investigating him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, at President Donald Trump’s direction.
In a video statement, Newsom said Trump had previously called for his arrest and was now using the DOJ to target him and his family because of a possible future presidential run. He also said the investigation is meant to intimidate him politically.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the probe has been underway since 2025 and is tied to whistleblower complaints about the couple’s personal finances. The case is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento, and the DOJ did not comment.
