Blue Jays trade Kevin Gausman to Cubs for Brett Bateman, Ty Southisene Toronto sells at the deadline as Chicago adds pitching for a playoff push
The Toronto Blue Jays have traded veteran righthander Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs, receiving outfielder Brett Bateman and infielder Ty Southisene in return.
Bateman, 24, was hitting .312 with three home runs and 20 stolen bases in TripleA this season, while 21yearold Southisene was batting .326 in HighA.
Gausman leaves Toronto after five seasons and a deal signed in 2021. This year, he had a 410 record with a 4.38 ERA in 23 starts. Toronto sits last in the AL East and is acting as a seller ahead of Monday’s MLB trade deadline, while Chicago is pushing for pitching help as it leads the National League wildcard race.
