U.S. stocks mixed: MGM, Zoom and Nvidia move on deals, IPO news and earnings See the biggest midday movers and what’s driving the market right now
U.S. stocks were sharply mixed midday Monday as several companies moved on earnings, analyst actions, acquisition news, and new business filings.
MGM Resorts jumped after Barry Diller’s People Inc. offered to buy the company for $48.30 per share in cash. Zoom Communications rose after Anthropic, in which Zoom was an early investor, filed confidentially for an initial public offering. Veeva Systems and Humana also advanced after investors reacted to earnings expectations and reaffirmed guidance.
Other notable movers included Viasat, which fell after filing a shelf registration to potentially sell stock or debt, while Nvidia climbed following a new processor announcement made in partnership with Microsoft. IBM gained after Barclays initiated coverage with an overweight rating, and several chip and software names moved in response to the Nvidia news and broader strength in the software sector.
