OHL fines Barrie Colts $15,000 after viral press conference

The Ontario Hockey League has fined the Barrie Colts $15,000 after the team’s postgame press conference drew criticism and spread widely online. The league said the conduct hurt its public image and was unprofessional. The incident followed Barrie’s 50 win over the Brantford Bulldogs in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference final in Brantford on Monday. Head coach Dylan Smoskowitz and captain Kashawn Aitcheson answered questions with the repeated phrase, “no one cares, work harder.” The OHL announced the penalty on Wednesday, just before Game 1 of the league final in Kitchener. Smoskowitz later apologized during a Tuesday appearance on TSN’s OverDrive, saying he chose that response because the full team could not take part in the press conference.
