Kelowna neighbourhood closed for hours after bomb scare

A Kelowna, British Columbia, neighbourhood was closed for several hours on Monday after a suspicious object that appeared to be an improvised explosive device was found near Barlee and Springfield roads.
Police evacuated the area, shut down nearby streets, and requested support from the BC RCMP explosives disposal unit, which had to travel from Metro Vancouver before the object could be examined.
The road closures were lifted shortly after 11:30 p.m. once investigators determined the device was inert and posed no danger to the public. RCMP say they have not identified who left the object or why, and they are asking anyone with information to come forward.
