Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to arrive in Washington on Wednesday for a twoday summit with President Donald Trump. The visit is expected to center on artificial intelligence, trade, export controls, rareearth minerals, and other areas of tension between the two countries.
The White House plans a formal arrival ceremony on Thursday, followed by meetings at which both sides are expected to discuss possible tariff reductions on some nonstrategic goods and restrictions on key exports. Trump is also expected to press China on fentanyl precursor chemicals and the case of an American citizen held in China.
The summit will conclude with a state dinner attended by prominent executives from the technology and finance sectors. Trump has said the United States is leading China in AI development and wants to keep that advantage as the two governments continue broader trade talks.
