Geely to build EVs at Ford plant in Spain in new joint venture

China’s Geely will produce electric vehicles at a Ford factory in Valencia, Spain, through a new manufacturing joint venture, the companies said Thursday. The venture is awaiting regulatory approval and is expected to begin operating in the first half of 2027. The first vehicles are planned to roll off the line in 2028, while the plant will keep making the Ford Kuga for now. Under the agreement, Ford will own 66% of the venture and Geely 34%. The companies said the project will include a new electric crossover for Ford, a new Bronco model, and two electric Geely SUVs. The deal comes as legacy automakers look for partnerships to cut costs and compete with Chinese carmakers expanding outside China.
