Meta faces pressure to prove its AI strategy can pay off

Meta AI: Zuck’s push for proprietary models still trails OpenAI and Google See why adoption, trust and revenue are now the real test for Meta

A year after Meta brought in Alexandr Wang and a team of Scale AI engineers for more than $14 billion, the company has made progress in artificial intelligence but still trails major rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. The report says Wang’s team delivered the Muse Spark model in April, marking Meta’s shift toward proprietary AI models. The next challenge for CEO Mark Zuckerberg is turning that technical work into revenue by attracting paying users and building products that can stand apart from the company’s ad business. Analysts and industry figures quoted in the article said Meta still needs stronger evidence of adoption, developer trust and commercialization. The company is also testing subscription plans and plans to offer API access to outside developers, while continuing to rely heavily on advertising for most of its revenue.
