A small aircraft crashed into Beijing’s CITIC Tower on Friday, leaving a large hole in the building and prompting a major emergency response in the city’s business district.
According to flighttracking data cited in the report, the plane was identified as a Sunward SA 60L Aurora and took off about 30 miles east of the city before the crash. Videos and photos shared online appeared to show the aircraft falling after striking the tower.
Authorities had not released details on the pilot, casualties, or the cause of the crash as of Friday afternoon. Chinese officials also appeared to restrict public discussion of the incident while emergency crews worked at the scene.
