Invest in Canada gets new leadership as Dominic Barton chairs the agency See how Ottawa aims to woo foreign investors ahead of a key Toronto summit
Prime Minister Mark Carney has named Dominic Barton as chair of Invest in Canada, the federal agency that works to attract foreign investment. The move comes just weeks before a Toronto summit where the government plans to pitch Canadian projects to international investors.
Barton, a former Canadian ambassador to China and a longtime corporate executive, previously helped shape the idea for Invest in Canada while leading an earlier economic advisory council. He will serve a threeyear term on a parttime basis, while outgoing chair Karl Tabbakh remains on the board during the transition.
Gurinder Grewal, founder and managing partner of MEM Growth Partners, is becoming the agency’s new chief executive, replacing Laurel Broten after her resignation takes effect on Sept. 1. No reason was given for Broten’s early departure.
