Ontario farmers seek help as diesel costs hit record levels
Ontario farm diesel prices are driving up costs and squeezing margins See how Ontario leaders plan to help farmers cope with record fuel costs
Ontario farmers are calling for government support as diesel prices reach record highs, raising operating costs for farms across the province.
The issue was highlighted at the annual International Plowing Match and Rural Expo in Walkerton, Ontario, where provincial politicians gathered and farmers pressed for action.
Natural Resources Canada data show the average national diesel price rose to $2.75 per litre in midSeptember, surpassing the previous high set in 2022. Premier Doug Ford said Ontario’s farm risk management program will increase from $150 million to $250 million next year to help farmers manage pressure from higher costs.
