Air quality warning lifted across the GTA

Environment Canada lifted an air quality warning across the Greater Toronto Area on Sunday after wildfire smoke that had affected the region for much of the week began to clear. The alert had been issued after smoke drifted south from wildfires in northwestern Ontario. Forecast rain, thunderstorms and shifting winds helped improve conditions, and the air quality health index was in the low to moderate risk range early Sunday in cities including Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville and Oshawa. Officials also said some weatherrelated warnings had eased by Saturday evening, including a thunderstorm alert and a brief tornado warning in parts of Halton and Peel. Toronto reopened outdoor and wading pools Saturday afternoon, while some events were rescheduled or continued as planned depending on local conditions.
