Federal officials said this year’s wildfire season remains challenging, but it has not reached the scale seen in 2025. They noted that Canada has recorded about 3,100 fires so far this season, with 796 active wildfires currently burning and 60 classified as out of control.
The update came as an outofcontrol fire in British Columbia led to evacuation orders for about 150 properties and evacuation alerts for another 255 properties. Officials also pointed to weather forecasts showing abovenormal temperatures in many regions through the summer, alongside mixed precipitation patterns across the country.
Officials compared the current season with 2025, when more than 6,000 wildfires burned over 8.3 million hectares. They said this year is being viewed as more manageable, while still requiring preparedness and close monitoring.
