Trump says U.S. gave final bailout offer to Spirit Airlines
Spirit Airlines bailout proposal faces a crucial test as liquidation risks grow See what’s next for passengers, workers, and the airline’s bankruptcy fight
President Donald Trump said Friday that the administration has made a final bailout proposal for Spirit Airlines as talks with bondholders continue and the carrier faces the risk of liquidation.
The budget airline, based in Florida, has struggled with rising fuel costs, an engine recall, and weaker demand after entering bankruptcy for the second time in less than a year. Spirit had expected to leave bankruptcy by midyear, but higher jet fuel prices tied to conflict in the Middle East have added pressure.
If Spirit cannot secure a deal, the airline could shut down. Other U.S. carriers, including United, American and JetBlue, said they are preparing support plans for stranded passengers and affected employees if that happens.
