Ford office cuts staff costs by $1 million after spending criticism

Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s office is reducing its staff by 10 positions and cutting annual costs by more than $1 million, according to a memo from chief of staff Travis Kann. The office has faced criticism over its growing size and spending, with salaries topping $8 million in 2025, more than 150% higher than in 2019, Ford’s first full year in office. Kann said he has been working since March to streamline the office, including a hiring freeze and staff relocations. The changes come as Ford has also asked Torontoarea caucus members who charged taxpayers for hotel stays to repay the money.
