Okanagan Lake swim raises Alzheimer’s research funds for a personal cause Penticton swimmer Issie Grecoff tackles 55 km to honour her grandmother
A 20yearold competitive swimmer from Penticton is preparing to swim 55 kilometres across Okanagan Lake from Kelowna to Penticton on Aug. 19 to raise money for Alzheimer’s research.
Issie Grecoff says the effort is personal. Her grandmother, Joan Wickett, died of Alzheimer’s disease in 2022 at age 79, and Grecoff wants the swim to honour her memory while supporting the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Grecoff, a University of Waterloo varsity swimmer and former KISU Swim Club athlete, expects the crossing to take about 20 to 22 hours in cold, rough water. Her family and a safety boat will accompany her during the attempt. Donations for the fundraiser can be made through her website.
