Keiko Fujimori has been formally declared the winner of Peru's presidential runoff election, according to the country's top election authority on Friday in Lima.
Fujimori, a conservative politician and the daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, won 50.14% of the vote, narrowly defeating nationalist lawmaker Roberto Sánchez, who received 49.87%.
She will take office later this month as Peru's ninth president in 10 years, following a campaign shaped by political instability and voter concern over rising crime and extortion. The Trump administration welcomed the result and said it expects closer cooperation with Peru on security, investment, and trade.
