Man dies, boy seriously injured in Highway 59 crash south of Winnipeg

A man was killed and a 13yearold boy was seriously injured after a collision involving a semitruck on Highway 59 near the RM of Tache, south of Winnipeg, on Wednesday morning. Manitoba RCMP said a northbound car crossed into the path of a southbound semi shortly after midnight. The impact pushed both vehicles into the ditch. The driver of the car, a 20yearold man from Ontario, died at the scene. The boy, who is from Steinbach, was airlifted to a Winnipeg hospital with lifethreatening injuries. The semitruck driver, a 45yearold man from Alberta, was not hurt. Highway 59 was closed for several hours between Highway 210 and Highway 311 before reopening with a reduced speed limit, according to Manitoba 511.
