Ontario bus driver acquitted in fatal Mississauga crash

Ontario bus driver acquitted in Mississauga fatal crash case after court ruling See why the judge cited unclear causes and reasonable doubt in the decision

A judge in Ontario has found a Miway bus driver not guilty in a dangerous driving case linked to a fatal multivehicle crash in Mississauga in June 2023. The collision happened at Derry and Rexwood roads around 9:25 a.m., when the bus struck several vehicles stopped at a red light. Sharron Williams, who was in a Nissan Rogue, died and several others were injured. In his ruling, Justice David E. Harris said the cause of the crash was still unclear. He noted that brake failure remained a possible explanation and said the Crown had not proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the driver’s actions caused the death. Williams’ son said afterward that he did not believe justice was served.
