Quebec election debate puts Christine Fréchette in focus as leaders clash Over economy, sovereignty and immigration ahead of Oct. 5—see the key issues
Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette was the main focus of the first provincial election debate in Quebec on Tuesday, where party leaders clashed over the economy, sovereignty and immigration.
Fréchette’s opponents attacked the CAQ’s record in government, pointing to spending, debt and project cost overruns. Fréchette said she was not François Legault and argued that her government would bring stability, while also defending her party’s recent work and policy proposals.
The debate also turned to Quebec sovereignty and immigration, with leaders trading criticism over referendum plans, public services and school overcrowding. The three leaders will meet again in the next debates, and Quebec voters are set to go to the polls on Oct. 5.
