Prince George downtown rink plan faces delay as council stalls a key vote Post-election decision could reshape the arena and arts centre—read what’s next
Prince George city council has postponed a key vote on plans for a new downtown hockey rink and performing arts centre until after the municipal election on Oct. 17.
The council had been expected to choose two of four redevelopment options, which would have allowed consultants to refine a business case for the project. The proposals all included an 800seat theatre or concert hall, a 200seat black box theatre, and a new arena on a separate site, with differences in arena size and location.
Coun. Trudy Klassen moved to delay the decision until Nov. 30, saying the extra time would allow for more public consultation. The motion passed by one vote. Supporters of the project, including the Prince George Spruce Kings and Theatre NorthWest, warned that the delay could push the redevelopment further back.
