All living U.S. presidents attend 9/11 anniversary ceremonies
Sept. 11 remembrance honors victims at Pentagon, Ground Zero, and beyond New tributes, family ceremonies, and moments of silence mark the 25th anniversary
U.S. President Donald Trump marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks at a ceremony at the Pentagon, while the four living former presidents gathered at Ground Zero in New York City.
The commemorations brought together current and former national leaders, along with families, survivors and officials, to remember the nearly 3,000 people killed in the 2001 attacks. At the Pentagon, names of the 184 people who died there were read aloud, while the New York observance followed its traditional format of reading victims’ names and holding moments of silence.
This year’s remembrance also included a new silent tribute for people who later died from illnesses linked to exposure to toxic dust from the collapse of the World Trade Center. Other memorial events were held in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and across the United States, while Canada held a ceremony in Newfoundland to reflect on the impact of the attacks there as well.
