Quebec legislature pushes 16 bills on labor, housing, energy and language See what CAQ aims to pass before June 12 and why critics are concerned
Lawmakers in Quebec City began a shortened sitting at the National Assembly on Tuesday, with the governing Coalition Avenir Québec aiming to pass at least 16 bills before the session ends on June 12.
Premier Christine Fréchette said the government may add sitting days on Fridays and Mondays to fit the legislative agenda. Among the measures on the list are a proposed provincial constitution, changes to labour rules during strikes and lockouts, and a bill to speed approvals for projects tied to energy and critical minerals.
Other planned bills would address ticket resale pricing, childcare space shortages, subsidized housing applications, involuntary hospitalization criteria, domestic violence disclosure, and language rules in adult and vocational education. Fréchette said the government views the bills as important, while opposition parties have raised concerns about some of the proposals.
