Ontario reviews rules for Botox and filler treatments

Ontario’s nursing regulator has updated guidance for cosmetic procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers, and is considering further changes that could affect how nurses provide these services. The College of Nurses of Ontario says the proposed changes are aimed at improving client safety, clarifying responsibilities, and creating more consistency across nursing practice. The debate centres on whether nurses should need direct, patientspecific authorization from a doctor or nurse practitioner for each visit, rather than broader standing directives. Some nurses and clinic operators argue the proposal could add unnecessary administration and disrupt current business models, especially for followup treatments. Others, including nursing leaders, say tighter oversight could help with quality control and infection prevention. The college is expected to decide on the changes in September after public consultation closed this week.
