Researchers confirm tornado caused damage in Harrington, Que.

Researchers from the Northern Tornadoes Project say the storm that moved through Harrington, Que., this week was a tornado. The team reported snapped power poles and heavy tree damage along a path more than 10 kilometres long and in some places over one kilometre wide. The tornado has been given a preliminary rating of highend EF1, with estimated maximum winds of 175 km/h. Environment and Climate Change Canada had previously said radar data suggested a tornado formed around 5:34 p.m. and ended about 10 minutes later on Tuesday. Harrington, a small municipality northwest of Montreal in the Laurentians, saw downed power lines and outages after the storm. Researchers are still assessing the damage and confirming the full track of the tornado.
