Russia launched ballistic and cruise missile strikes on Kyiv on Tuesday, damaging residential buildings in two districts and causing fires across the city, Ukrainian officials said. Residents were told to stay indoors, and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said some people were trapped inside a residential building.
The attack followed visits to Ukraine and Russia by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who met with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv on Sunday and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the day before. The visits were part of a Trump administration effort to restart stalled peace talks.
Witkoff said Ukraine and Russia had agreed to a threeday ceasefire before the trip, but that pause ended on Tuesday. Officials also reported separate drone attacks in both countries over the same period, with casualties and damage in Russia and Ukraine.
