Smith and Fréchette discuss stronger Alberta-Quebec ties

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette met in Quebec City on Wednesday to highlight closer cooperation between their provinces on trade and autonomy. The meeting at the National Assembly came as both governments are looking for more room to set their own policies within Canada. Smith said Alberta has been watching Quebec’s legislative approach and sees opportunities to learn from it. Both premiers also pointed to the value of stronger interprovincial trade, saying their provinces have complementary economies and could work together more closely as they navigate uncertainty in CanadaU.S. relations. Smith said Alberta is open to expanding trade with Quebec and raised the idea of moving more Alberta goods through the Port of Quebec.
