Lakeridge Health closes diabetes clinics in Ajax and Bowmanville

Lakeridge Health diabetes clinics are moving from Ajax and Bowmanville to Whitby Get the clinic change, patient support, and what stays available before June 30

Lakeridge Health is shutting down its diabetes clinics at hospitals in Ajax and Bowmanville later this month and moving the service to Whitby. The Durham Region hospital network says the change is meant to improve coordination by combining diabetes care with its renal program at the Whitby site. It says the Diabetes Education Program will continue and that staffing will remain aligned with patient demand. The program serves more than 5,500 people and includes assessments, nutrition counselling, insulin and blood glucose meter instruction, and group education sessions. Lakeridge Health said most patients attend in person, and it has begun contacting affected patients directly as the transition is completed by June 30. Volunteers will be available at the former clinic sites to guide anyone who arrives after the move.
