Canada is marking the United States' 250th Independence Day with a set of symbolic gestures that highlight the two countries' relationship.
The Royal Canadian Air Force and the U.S. Air Force are scheduled to hold a ceremonial flypast over Ottawa on Saturday evening as part of the city's Fourth of July events. The formation is expected to include two CF18 Hornets and two U.S. F35 fighter jets.
Other commemorations include messages from Prime Minister Mark Carney, Niagara Falls being lit in red, white and blue, Canadian military vessels joining Sail250 events in several U.S. cities, and the planting of 250 maple trees in Washington and across border states. Carney said the two countries have built their friendship and prosperity over generations, while King Charles III also noted the importance of shared values and longstanding ties.
